Description  The Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of the Garrotxa, created in the 1982, has more than 25 years of experience in management and conservation of the geologic patrimony in general and volcanic in particular. The volcanic zone of the Garrotxa contains the best preserved volcanic landscape of the Iberian Peninsula. It hosts about forty volcanic cinder cones and more than 20 basaltic lava flows. Orography, soils and climate provide a variety of vegetation, often exuberant, with holm oaks, oak groves and beeches of exceptional landscaping value. All this is located in a very active social and economically developed region. Within the protected area more than 40,000 inhabitants are living, and the metropolitan area of Barcelona, with more of 4 million inhabitants, is only one and a half hour by car. The objective of the management of this protected volcanic zone is how to make compatible conservation and the use of the resources and the maintenance of the activity of its inhabitants. The management experiences that will be exposed throughout the visit will try to show these efforts.
