| Description |
Volcano
observation and monitoring is the most useful tool that scientific
community has to understand and model volcanic processes. These
observations could provide information on the nature and magma
characteristics, the rate of the magma involved and ascent from the
source area, information of the fractionation processes in the magma
evolution, or magma accumulation and transport, and all together permit
to estimate its evolution and short time forecast. Results provided
from modern observation strategies could be used as early warning
alerts in volcanic processes, including potential eruptions. At the
present there are many examples where volcano monitoring has produced
success alerts, reducing the damages and preparing authorities for the
incoming event. In this session will discuss about the recent
developments and applications of seismology, geodesy and geochemistry
to volcano observation and monitoring. |
