Description The unpredictable evolution of volcanic crises and eruptions pose specific problems from the scientific, managerial and social points of view. Vital to a successful outcome is an appropriate and effective communication between all the parties involved and with the concerned public. This session aims to explore new approaches to improving communication before, during and after volcanic emergencies. We welcome, but not limit, discussions and presentations on the following topics:
(1) Improving communications during long lasting eruptions, during extended volcanic crisis and on the reawakening of dangerous volcanoes,
(2) Investigations on perception of hazards and risk,
(3) Best practice in presenting information on volcanic hazards and risk,
(4) Communications between specific groups working on volcanic areas,
(5) Lessons learnt from past and current experiences,
(6) Communicating uncertainty and false alarms.
