How to get to Tenerife
There are daily flights to Tenerife from major airports in Spain mainland (Madrid, Barcelona, etc.) where flights arrive from all over the world. In addition Tenerife has two airports and a significant number of international flights arrive directly to Tenerife. The nearest international airport to Puerto de la Cruz is Los Rodeos (Tenerife North Airport). It is 22 kilometres from Puerto de la Cruz - estimated transfer time to the hotel area is 20 minutes - by car along the north motorway. The other international airport is Reina Sof6iacute;a (Tenerife South Airport). It is 95 kilometres from Puerto de la Cruz - estimated transfer time to the hotel area is 1 and 1/2 hours by car - along the south motorway. From both airports there are buses and taxis services to Puerto de la Cruz.
Passport and Visa
Every foreign visitor entering Spain must have a valid passport or travel document that credits its identity, that is considered valid for such aim by virtue of international treaties subscribed by Spain and not to be subject to prohibitions express. Climate
In general, the climate of Tenerife is moderate, tempering and very smooth in any station of the year. There are neither cold nor hot periods. The average temperatures fluctuate between the 17-18 °C in winter and the 24-25 °C in the summer season, although these are relative values and general. Evidently there are climatic contrasts which do occur on the island, particularly during the winter months when it is possible to enjoy the warm sunshine on the coast and experience snow within just miles, 3000 metres above sea level on Teide volcano.
Currency, Bank and Post Office
Euro (€) is the currency in Spain. Foreign money exchange facilities are available at international airports as well as at banks in Puerto de la Cruz. Bank hours are 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Most of the shops in Puerto de la Cruz can accept major credit cards. The post office is also open during business hours.
Tax
A consumption tax (IGIC) of five percent is included on all services and goods purchased in the Canary Islands. This consumption tax is higher in Spain mainland; sixteen percent.
Insurance
Medical systems and facilities in the Canary Islands as well as in the rest of Spain are well established so that you can expect to receive a high standard of medical treatment. However, medical services are not free for overseas visitors. All participants are strongly advised to take out their own private medical coverage and personal insurance for the duration of the conference and accompanying field excursions.
